The facts on the card
The card carries these facts from its Wikipedia article.
- Milanković made two fundamental contributions to science: he devised advanced methods to compute slow changes in Earth's orbit that gradually redistribute insolation between the seasons and low- and high-latitude regions, and he developed a quantitative theory of climate where these insolation cycles were sufficient to cause the recurring ice ages of the Quaternary period.
- While the Milankovitch cycles in insolation were confirmed and extended in subsequent research, Milankovitch’s theory of climate is broadly inconsistent with modern reconstructions of global cooling during the ice ages, the dynamic behavior of the ice sheets, as well as evidence for changing ocean circulation and greenhouse gas radiative forcing.
- Resolving the role of Milanković insolation cycles in pacing the recorded glacial-interglacial climate cycles remains an outstanding problem in the climate sciences.
Why it is Uncommon
Rarity in WikiCards follows a year of Wikipedia page views: the most read articles become Epic and Legendary cards. The Milutin Milanković article was read about 37,000 times in a year. ATK comes from the length of the article and DEF from its quality, so this card hits with 82 and blocks with 88: each hit it takes is cut by 35 %.
