Wiki
A wiki is a form of hypertext publication on the internet which is collaboratively edited and managed by its audience directly through a web browser.
How to play Wiki Race
- You start on a real Wikipedia article, shown here in full.
- Click a link in the article to move to that article. Every page you open counts as one click, and so does going back.
- Reach the target article. Your score is the number of clicks, then the time.
- Only links to other articles work: files, categories and help pages are off, and there is no search box.
Tips for fewer clicks
- Head for a broad article first, a country, a city, a century or a science: they link to almost everything.
- Read the target description below the route: it tells you which part of Wikipedia to aim for.
- The first paragraph and the infobox hold the strongest links. Dates and places make good bridges.
- Work backwards: think of an article that would surely link to the target, then find a way to it.
What is a wiki race (wikirace)?
A wiki race, also written wikirace and also called the Wikipedia game, Wikipedia speedrun or wikiracing, is a race between two Wikipedia articles using only the links inside the articles. Players compare their number of clicks and their time.
It works because Wikipedia articles are densely linked to each other: from almost any article, a handful of links lead to the big general topics, and from there to the rest of the encyclopedia.
Here the start and the target are picked from the WikiCards base set, articles that are read a lot on Wikipedia, and the race of the day is the same for every player.
FAQ

What is a Wikipedia speedrun?
The same game played against the clock: a Wikipedia speedrun, or wiki speedrun, is a wiki race where you try to reach the target article as fast as possible, with as few clicks as possible. Here the time is kept for you and the daily race is the same for every player.
Is it wikirace, wiki race or wikiracing?
All three name the same game: racing from one Wikipedia article to another by clicking links only.
Can I play Wiki Race on my phone?
Yes. The race works in mobile browsers on Android and iPhone.
Where do the articles come from?
They are loaded live from English Wikipedia, under the CC BY-SA 4.0 licence. WikiCards is not affiliated with Wikipedia or the Wikimedia Foundation.
When does the daily race change?
Every day at midnight UTC. The random race button gives a new pair at any time.
How is the score counted?
In clicks first: every article opened and every step back counts as one. Between equal clicks, the faster time wins.
