Carnot cycle quiz: 3 questions
Three questions on the Carnot cycle card, the way WikiCards duels ask them. Pick an answer, the facts are just below.
Find the missing word
The cycle is reversible, merely transferring ______ energy between the thermal reservoirs and the system without gain or loss.
Answer
thermal. The cycle is reversible, merely transferring thermal energy between the thermal reservoirs and the system without gain or loss. From the Carnot cycle article on Wikipedia.
Which of these Wikipedia articles is read the most in a year?
Answer
Signal-to-noise ratio. Signal-to-noise ratio 190,000 · Mirage 150,000 · Carnot cycle 100,000 · Aircraft registration 77,000 Wikipedia reads over a year.
In a duel, each round asks a question like these about the opposing card, with 15 seconds to answer.
The facts on the card
The card carries these facts from its Wikipedia article.
- By Carnot's theorem, it provides an upper limit on the efficiency of any classical thermodynamic engine during the conversion of heat into work, or conversely, the efficiency of a refrigeration system in creating a temperature difference through the application of work to the system.
- In a Carnot cycle, a system or engine transfers energy in the form of heat between two thermal reservoirs at temperatures TH and TC, and a part of this transferred energy is converted to the work done by the system.
- The cycle is reversible, merely transferring thermal energy between the thermal reservoirs and the system without gain or loss.
Why it is Uncommon
Rarity in WikiCards follows a year of Wikipedia page views: the most read articles become Epic and Legendary cards. The Carnot cycle article was read about 100,000 times in a year. ATK comes from the length of the article and DEF from its quality, so this card hits with 63 and blocks with 47: each hit it takes is cut by 19 %.
How to get Carnot cycle
Open packs. Each pack holds five cards drawn from real Wikipedia articles, the rarest last, and the fifth card is always Rare or better. The odds are shown in the game. A free pack arrives every hour and two can wait, and the Coins you win in duels buy more packs.
