The facts on the card
The card carries these facts from its Wikipedia article.
- It was first articulated by the 18th-century Scottish philosopher David Hume, who saw a significant difference between descriptive statements and prescriptive statements.
- He argued that it is not obvious how one can coherently transition from descriptive statements to prescriptive ones.
- Hume's law or Hume's guillotine is the thesis that an ethical or judgemental conclusion cannot be inferred from purely descriptive factual statements.
Why it is Uncommon
Rarity in WikiCards follows a year of Wikipedia page views: the most read articles become Epic and Legendary cards. The Is–ought problem article was read about 120,000 times in a year. ATK comes from the length of the article and DEF from its quality, so this card hits with 69 and blocks with 47: each hit it takes is cut by 19 %.
