The facts on the card
The card carries these facts from its Wikipedia article.
- The theory holds that multi-membraned eukaryotic organelles such as mitochondria and chloroplasts are endosymbionts descended from formerly free-living prokaryotes that were phagocytized into another prokaryote's endomembrane system.
- Mitochondria appear to be phylogenetically related to Alphaproteobacteria such as Rickettsiales, while chloroplasts are thought to be related to beta-cyanobacteria.
- The idea that chloroplasts were originally independent unicellular organisms that merged into a symbiotic relationship with other unicellular organisms dates back to the 19th century, when it was espoused by researchers such as Andreas Schimper.
Why it is Uncommon
Rarity in WikiCards follows a year of Wikipedia page views: the most read articles become Epic and Legendary cards. The Symbiogenesis article was read about 75,000 times in a year. ATK comes from the length of the article and DEF from its quality, so this card hits with 81 and blocks with 96: each hit it takes is cut by 38 %.
